We strongly recommend that you prime the surface with Grout Rescue Pre-Treatment before application for optimum results and the most accurate colours, whether the grout is new or old.
The colour chart must be used as a guide only; due to the original grout colour, texture, grout width, and artificial and natural lighting, the finished Grout Rescue colour may dry slightly differently once applied – as an example, applying a grey grout to white tiles will make the grout look darker due to the contrast of light and dark, whereas if you apply mid grey grout colouring to pure black tiled surfaces, then the grey grout will look lighter in contrast to its surroundings.
Our policy is that we cannot guarantee an exact 100% match and you should choose a grout colour that MOST CLOSELY MATCHES the colour scheme you want to achieve. Always do a small on-site test in an inconspicuous area so you can assess the results BEFORE undertaking the grout colour seal process.

Directions for use
NOTE: Due to our improved formula’s high polymer strength, you must complete a test patch to determine how long the product can be left on the surrounding tiles. Depending on the type of tile, you may need to remove the product excess within 5-10 minutes or it may be possible to leave up to 30 minutes – note, if left too long it will be extremely difficult to remove.
For best results, we recommend a two-stage process:
Stage 1: Prime the grout surface area on both old and new installations with Grout Rescue Pre‑Treatment.
Stage 2: Apply Grout Rescue Colour & Seal when the grout joints are clean and thoroughly dry.
- Shake the bottle & mix well before use. If using more than 1 bottle of a single colour for an application, mix all materials to ensure colour match and consistency. Make sure the grout joint is clean and thoroughly dry before applying Grout Rescue.
- Gently squeeze the bottle to apply steadily and consistently onto the grout joint using your preferred application tool, eg a small, stiff brush or sponge working it evenly onto the grout surface. Wipe away any excess sealer from the tile surface within the timeframe established from the project test (as a guide, within 30 minutes or less). Work in small manageable areas whilst applying and cleaning down – your test patch will dictate when to halt application to remove excess.
- Allow 48 hours drying time before wetting (using shower room) or cleaning the treated grout area.
Poor application, applying the grout colourant too heavily or thickly onto the grout joint can result in blistering, cracking and de-bonding of the colour sealer. This product is not recommended for use around porous surfaces i.e. unglazed tiles and natural stone surfaces as it could permanently stain. FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY.
How to Change Grout Colour with our Grout Stain
Step 1: Prepare the grout surface
Clean and prime the grout first with a grout cleaner to remove the worst dirt and grime that may be present. We recommend Universeal Grout Rescue Pre-treatment for maximum effectiveness.
Step 2: Apply the cleaner and agitate
Spray in Grout Rescue Pre-treatment and leave to dwell for the required time. Then agitate with a small brush to clean the grout lines and remove stubborn deposits.
Step 3: Wipe and dry
Using a damp sponge and a clean dry cloth, remove any remaining Grout Rescue Pre-treatment to make sure the surface is clear of artefacts and completely dry for the next stage.
Step 4: Ready your brush!
With a clean and dry surface, it’s time to apply Universeal Grout Rescue Colour & Seal. Use a small clean brush to get the best results using our grout dye. A disposable toothbrush is an affordable choice for the job.
Step 5: Apply our grout dye and sealer to the grout
Apply Universeal Grout Rescue Colour & Seal to the grout joints with the brush. Don’t worry too much about getting a little of the grout stain and dye onto the tiles, this will be removed safely soon! DO NOT OVER-APPLY, make sure you spread it out thinly and evenly with the brush.
Step 6: Wet and wipe
After leaving Universeal Grout Rescue Colour & Seal to dwell (time determined by test application but as a rule, 30 minutes or less), wet the tiles with some clean water, ideally from a mist sprayer. Then gently rub over the tiles with a grout scouring pad or non-abrasive scourer.
Step 7: The finishing touches
Wipe the grout colourant residue away with a clean absorbent sponge or cloth. Wipe repeatedly while rinsing with clean water to remove all remaining traces of grout dye from the tiles and grout. Then buff dry with a soft cloth for a perfect finish!

Now, you can colour your grout work with our range of stylish colours, as shown in our swatch set we’ve pre-selected a good range of 10 colours in popular tints.

The swatches provide a near match to the actual product, however, as you may expect, screen displays and print processes cannot match the colours 100% accurately, so if colour matching is crucial, we recommend you find a stockist and see the product colours in store. We will not be responsible for any colour matching problems as it remains the final responsibility of the user to confirm colour suitability.
